Updated: Feb 5, 2022

With the Vitality Super League Netball opening weekend just around the corner, the Severn Stars have released their dress design and named their squad for the upcoming 2022 season.

📍Stars dress reveal

The Stars will retain their navy-blue strip and have this year added a second colour, in orange, to the dress – similar to last season’s alternative dress.

Their second dress features the same colour palette in reverse with the main colour displaying the orange with a touch of navy at the bottom.

During the dress reveal, head coach Melissa Bessell released who would be wearing the new kit, including many new faces and some returning talents.

Former Silver Fern’s goal shooter Catherine Tuivaiti has joined the Stars and will make her return to the court after the birth of her second child.

Playing for Surrey Storm last season, Nicole Humphreys joins Bessell’s squad and will face her former team in the opening fixture.

Former London Pulse player Michelle Drayne has also signed for the Stars to boost the mid court section.

Grand Final experienced Katie Harris swaps the Wasps dress for the Stars this season as she looks to strengthen the attack.

Previously playing with the England U21s and Team Bath, Summer Artman joins Bessell’s side this season to boost their defence.

Mid court player Liana Leota returns for a third year and has been named the Stars’ captain for the 2022 season.

Among more familiar faces returning to the Stars’ side is shooter Paige Reed who has re-signed for her fourth season.

Also returning for Bessell’s side is Fiji international Adi Bolakoro, and Iman Thomas who will sure up the defence.

Retaining her place in the Stars’ side is defender Lucy Herdman and making a return to the court is Bethan Dyke who’s 2021 season was cut short after suffering from an ACL injury.

After being a training partner last season, 17-year-old Issy Eaton comes into the first team and has recently been called up to the Vitality Roses academy squad.

Mid court duo Chloe Carchrie and Elisha New make up this season’s training partners alongside attacker Jane Taylor.

The Stars will travel to the Resorts World Arena for the opening weekend of fixtures where they will face Surrey Storm and Manchester Thunder.

Last season Stars were able to do the double of Storm, winning both games 49-46 and 46-39 so head coach Bessell will be looking to carry that form into their opener on Saturday, February 5.

The second fixture of the weekend will see the Stars face Manchester Thunder who will be a tough test for Bessell’s side after winning both games against the Stars last season.

The opening fixtures for all teams in the Vitality Super League will be shown on Sky Sports Arena and streamed on Sky Sports YouTube channel across the weekend of Saturday, February 5 and Sunday, February 6.
