Premier League winners Manchester City were held to a point in their 2-2 game against rivals Liverpool after a moment of genius from Mohamed Salah and a deflected equaliser from Kevin De Bruyne.
The opening strike came in the 59th minute from the home side’s Sadio Mane as he struck the ball firmly into the bottom corner before Phil Foden equalised 10 minutes later with a low driven shot.
The Reds retook the lead from a stunning wonder goal from Mohamed Salah as he skipped past the City defence and buried the ball into the far corner.
The away side looked to their talisman Kevin De Bruyne for the equaliser as he struck the ball first time from the edge of the area, taking a deflection off Liverpool defender Joel Matip.
20/21 Champions Man City dominated the first half but failed to capitalise on any of their chances which they looked to later regret.
Bernardo Silva picked the ball up from his own half and danced past the Reds’ midfield and defence before finding Foden in the box who fired directly into the path of Alisson.
Foden later picked the ball up again and drove through the Merseyside’s defence but went down in the box after believing he had been fouled by ex-City player James Milner.
The penalty claim was waved away by referee Paul Tierney with the first half ending in a goalless 0-0 draw.
Liverpool’s first shot on target didn’t come until the second half as Diogo Jota turned and struck the ball past international team-mate Ruben Dias, directly into the path of Ederson.
The first goal came an hour into the game as Salah dribbled past the Blue defence and threaded the ball into the path for Mane who converted the precise past to put the Reds 1-0 up.
However, City weren’t behind for long as youngster Foden was picked out by Gabriel Jesus, who struck the ball towards the far post putting it past Milner and Alisson.
After already seeing yellow, Liverpool’s James Milner was lucky to escape red after he stuck a leg out to stop Bernardo Silva’s run.
With both teams looking for the winner, the home crowd erupted as Mo Salah picked the ball up from Curtis Jones and skipped past the City defence in style to power the team into the lead.
The Blues kept pushing when Foden whipped the ball into the box, lining up the perfect shot for City’s star man De Bruyne.
The Belgium’s first goal of the campaign took a deflection off defender Matip, taking the strike away from Alisson and into the back of the net.
A late winner was almost found as Mo Salah’s free kick was misjudged by Ederson leaving Fabinho with an open goal to place the ball into.
A well-timed block from Spanish midfielder Rodri, sent the ball away from goal, leaving the Brazilian midfielder in shock.
The points were shared after an action-packed second half, leaving Chelsea sitting at the top of the League.
Speaking after the game, Guardiola believed his team “should be winning by bigger margins” but despite that he claimed his team “played last three games really well”.
The Blues manager has a lot of praise for the youngster Phil Foden, describing him as “a special player… he’s a fantastic player”.
Talking on James Milner’s tackle, Guardiola insisted “it’s a yellow card…it’s clear, but it’s Anfield” and believed that “if it’s a City player, 100% he’s sent off”.
Klopp believed his team had a bad start to the game and “was happy to hear the half time whistle”
“So, from half time the message is to play the extra pass”, the Reds manager said.
The German had a lot of praise for his star Mo Salah describing him as “world class, he is one of the best players in the world”.
The Reds travel to Vicarage Road to face Watford in their next upcoming fixture, whilst Manchester City host Sean Dyche’s Burnley side.
