Cheltenham Town continue their unbeaten run in all competitions after a comeback 2-1 win against 10-men Shrewsbury at the Jonny-Rocks stadium.

The Robins conceded inside just five minutes after striker Daniel Udoh battled past defender Lewis Freestone leaving him room to strike the shot into the bottom corner.

The away side went down to 10 men and conceded a penalty after Elliot Bennett denied Dan Crowley’s shot with his hands. Conor Thomas stepped up and drilled the spot kick into the bottom corner equalising for the home side.

Substitute Kyle Joseph grabbed the winner for the Robins with a tap in to secure the deserved three points at home.

The Robins looked to open the scoring through Chris Hussey before defender Matthew escaped a red after stopping the through ball with his hands, resulting in a free kick.

Kyle Vassell stepped up for the free kick but his shot was fired over the crossbar, keeping the game at 0-0.

Shrewsbury began to increase their pressure with Luke Leahy closing down and dispossessing Liam Sercombe to thread the ball into the feet of Udoh who slotted home the opener.

Michael Duff’s side looked for the equaliser as Crowley took the ball past his man and onto his left foot before Shrews’ defender Bennett was sent off for a deliberate handball, preventing his shot from rippling the back of the net.

Penalty taker Thomas stepped up and converted the penalty equalising for his side, netting his first goal for the club this season into the bottom corner.

Loanee Christian Norton capitalised on Nathanael Ogbeta’s poor clearance before wriggling off defender Ethan Ebanks-Landell to open up space for Matty Blair but his strike was at a comfortable height for Marko Marosi.

Blair was close to the Robins’ second once again after directing Crowley’s pinpointed cross goal bound but Shrews’ keeper Marosi’s quick reaction time enabled him to claim the ball, keeping his side level heading into the break.

The Robins provided the first good chance of the second half when Crowley sat down the Shrews defence but his effort was eventually blocked.

The visitors continued to be pressured by the home side after Vassell connected with Sean Long’s cross but Marosi was there to prevent the lead.

Cheltenham looked to freshen things up with a double change with Freestone and Norton making way for Alfie May and Joseph in the 58th minute.

Shrewsbury began to open up and attack as they won a corner but were left vulnerable to Cheltenham’s counterattack with the energetic May present on the field.

The Reds’ defence was able to clear the Shrews corner to Joseph who found himself in aches of space before picking out Vassell who’s shot drifted over the bar.

Soon after, the home side took the lead after Blair’s pass was played into the feet of Crowley, who’s effort hit the post and fell back into the feet of Joseph for the tap in.

Cheltenham pressed for a third after May’s curling pass found the feet of Vassell but the striker’s shot was saved by Shrews’ keeper Marosi.

Marosi was only able to get a hand to it with Vassell still pressuring and was able to keep the ball in play before finding the youngster Joseph who eventually sliced his shot.

The home side were able to hold off any late attempts from Shrewsbury to take all three points, leaving them 12th in League One.

Cheltenham will travel to the Priestfield Stadium to face Gillingham who currently sit down in 21st position and look to regain their form.
